Future Solar Panels on Roof

Hi all,

I am working on a project with rooftop solar panels planned. A portion of the solar panels will be initially installed during building construction, and the rest will be installed at a later time (i.e. after the building becomes operational). For SSc5, when calculating the total applicable roof area, should I only consider the area of the initial solar panels, or should I consider the total area of the initial and proposed future solar panels?

Also, just to confirm, "Total Roof Area" in the option 1 criteria (both equations 1 and 2) is actually referring to the total applicable roof area, which excludes equipment, solar panels, etc.

Thank you so much!

Best,

James

Hi James, As with most other credits, too, you should only consider what is in the scope of the active project, as future endeavors cannot be guaranteed; this will also apply to the Renewable Energy credit if that is pursued. Occasionally, a credit will allow the inclusion of planned elements, but those credits that do already have that language embedded with the credit text. If you feel you have a guaranteed outcome and a way to prove it, you might have a case, but would need to discuss it directly with GBCI before attempting.

Hi Emily, Thank you so much for the explanation. I will only the actual proposed solar panels then. Best wishes, James
