I am working with a customer discussing LEED certification for four similar residential buildings. They have only minor variations. Would it be possible to lower the costs by certifying it as one building?

Yes. Assuming that they are all built within one constrution contract and simulataneously. They will target the same credits and echieve the same certification level. Keep in mind that the building with the lowest specification may therefore prevent other building from achieving certain credits or achieving a higher rating. There is a entire document detailing the process. Search usgbc.org resources.

THanks Samuel, so if there are two buildings built one after another, it wouldn't be possible ?

The guidance mentions that the buildings have to be built simultaneously. I assume it is not expected that the construction will commence and finalize on the same day. But finishing one and then moving on to construct the other would require 2 separate registrations and certifications. According to my understanding. This makes sense. You could not perform activities related to commissioning, ESC, waste etc. on both buildings within a reasonable timeframe.
