SSc8 includes a limitation in terms of the total initial designed fixture lumens emitted at an angle of 90 degrees or higher from nadir (for example, 2% for LZ2). Our project includes a number of uplights located under a very large exterior canopy. The canopy is opaque except for a few skylights in specific locations. The exterior uplights are always aimed at the opaque areas of the canopy. Should these uplights be counted towards the limitation in terms of the total initial designed fixture lumens emitted at an angle of 90 degrees or higher from nadir, even though they are located under the canopy and therefore do not light the night sky?
