Hello all,
I have a LEED project which is utilizing R448A as the refrigerant for a Cold Storage System. Since R448A is not included in the default ozone depletion and global warming potentials table in the LEED v4 NC reference guide, is there anyway that I can show compliance for the Minimum and Enhanced Refrigerant Management credits, or, it can be exempted from the calculation?
Thank you,
Song Zhang

Hello Song,
All referigerants that have a global warming potential (GWP) equal or higher to 50 must be documented even is it has ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0. If you do v4.1 substitution of this credit, there is a dropdown option in "Refrigerant" section of the Form which lets you select refrigerant as "Other". You can select "Other" and provide values for GWP and ODP manually. I am not sure whether v4 LEED Form has this feature or not. You need to provide manufactuers cut sheets, supporting research, or other documentation to validate the reported ODP and GWP values.
Hope this helps!

Hi Bipin,
Thanks a lot for your quick response. It looks like that I need to provide the LCGWP and LCODP hand calculations in addition to filling out the LEED form.

Song Zhang

Hello Song,
If you decide to use LEED v4 Form, you have to provide the LCGWP and LCODP hand calculations in addition to filling out the LEED form.
If you decided to do LEED v4.1 substitutions, you can follow the instruction from previous comments.

Hello Bipin, all,
Apart the LEED reference guide, is there a recognized international website that dictates the ODP and GWP of all refrigerants? Precisely, these data diverge between the different sites and I do not know the most real value?
I'll appreciate your return,
Bipin Karki

Sara,
You can provide manufactuers cut sheets, supporting research, or other documentation to validate the reported ODP and GWP values. Some additonal resources are:
