ASHRAE Standard 90.1 4.2.5.1 requires that the building envelope undergoes
functional performance testing (FPT) and states that testing must use generally
accepted engineering standards acceptable to the building official. In this case, it
may be beneficial for the design professional to specify an enclosure testing
scope of work consistent with AHJ requirements to ensure that the Owner’s
Project Requirement of LEED certification is met without incurring unanticipated
costs. We think this should be explicitly laid out or listed under best practices.
