NC-v4.1 EAc2:Optimize Energy Performance

EAc2 option question and PCI calculation

Hello everyone,

I work for a ventilation equipment manufacturer who recently supplied a couple of ERV units for EAc2 and the minimum energy performance prerequisite. I got in touch with the energy consultants on the project team and they informed me that our unit's energy recovery effectiveness was just slightly above code and that the fan power was "higher than ASHRAE 90.1 2013 code values as well." Does this indicate which option (1, 2, or 3) under EAc2 our units were used for?

If our units were used under option 1, my question is how is BBUEC, BBREC, and BBP calculated, and once you have a number for PCIt, is there any way to determine if an individual ERV/HRV unit will help earn a project team points under option 1?

This does not indicate which option has been used; however, the vast majority of projects pursue option 1. BBUEC, BBREC, and BBP are all calculated according to ASHRAE 90.1-2016 Appendix G modeling protocol. An ERV/HRV will help the project any time it reduces the overall energy cost of the Proposed building design, regardless of the Baseline modeling requirements.

Thank you very much for your reply Tyler! I have a follow-up question that I hope you might answer as well.  In your experience, what are some of the other types of products used alongside ERV 's to help optimize energy performance for LEED? What are some products that projects teams might use instead of ERV's?
