Very happy to see a heavily weighted credit breaking out thermal loads from the whole building energy model credit. This will be a great incentive not to ignore envelope even in buildings where equipment and process loads dominate the energy model, and to do thermal demand modeling as part of the integrative process.
The modeling and testing in this credit isn't my specialty so I may be missing something - but I would like to see more clarity on how this credit relates to existing codes and standards. Is the airtightness testing to be done to the same standard as in IECC, including the area required to be tested and sampling approach for large buildings? Is there a compliance option that aligns with the TEDI method (or a compliance path for projects following MA energy code)? Is there a simplified path to earn this credit for projects designing to Passive House?
