I'm working on a 455,000gsf expansion of an existing facility, which will have all new/standalone systems to support the new wing. The existing facility won't be impacted, spare for the demolition of an existing exterior wall to provide enclosed access between the new expansion and the existing building. The existing building is serviced by existing parking space, and since one must enter the overall project through the existing building, no new parking will be added to support the new wing.
We see an opportunity to gain LEED points by upgrading existing parking spaces to meet the LEED criteria for 5% preferred "green vehicle" parking, 5% preferred "pool" parking, and 2% EVSE/parking; however, the parking area serving our site falls outside the LEED Project Boundary. We would like to know if this approach would be acceptable for awarding of points to our project, since we are taking an existing condition and improving in within the "spirit" (and to the same stringency) as LEED would have us do if we were adding the parking to our project, within the LEED Project Boundary.
