I'm working on a LEEDv3 university building that is pursuing certification for NC instead of Schools. There are several classrooms and labs in the building, which we will classify as multi-occupant per the reference guide. Do the individual desks or group tables (a table with several seats around it - there may be several in a classroom as one seating arrangement option) need to meet the individually occupied space requirements for in this credit? Or do the lighting and thermal controls only need to have one point of control similar to a conference room? Also, since there are classrooms, do they need to provide a lighting system that operates in at least 2 modes (general illumination and A/V) even though the project is registered as NC? Thanks for your help!

Hi Helene,
Even though you are pursuing NC certification I would reference LEED for Schools for guidance here. I have copied and pasted the Schools guidance below. I would tell the reviewer that you're using Schools to help guide you even though you're working on an NC project.

CASE 1. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES AND OTHER REGULARLY OCCUPIED SPACES
Provide individual lighting controls for 90% (minimum) of the building occupants to enable adjustments to suit individual task needs and preferences.
AND
Provide lighting system controls for all learning spaces including classrooms, chemistry laboratories, art rooms, shops, music rooms, gymnasiums and dance and exercise studios to enable adjustments that meet group needs and preferences.
CASE 2. CLASSROOMS
In classrooms, provide a lighting system that operates in at least 2 modes: general illumination and A/V.
