ND-v2009 GIBc12:District heating and cooling

District pumping energy consumption

Hello,

GIBc12 - District heating and cooling requires that "annual district pumping energy consumption that exceeds 2.5% of the annual thermal energy output of the heating and cooling plant must be offset by increases in the component’s efficiency beyond the 10% improvement".

What is included in the district pumping energy consumption? Only distribution pumping? Or other pumping consumption must be included too?

Thank you

Vincent, in addition to distribution network pumps you should also include central plant pumps. Eliot

Thank you Eliot. Here the questions of my colleagues responsible for this projet, for whom requirements seem very difficult to achieve.   “ Additionally, annual district pumping energy consumption that exceeds 2.5% of the annual thermal energy output of the heating and cooling plant (with 1 kWh of electricity equal to 3,413 Btus) must be offset by increases in the component’s efficiency beyond the specified 10% improvement.” Our understanding is each pump shall not consume more than 2.5% of the annual cooling output of the DCS plant. This sentence seems to apply per equipment, and not for the whole plant. Is it a proper understanding? I have some doubts..

Vincent, the sentence should be applied to each pump. The reference in the middle of the sentence to "the component's" is a singular possessive reference to an individual pump. Eliot
