Dear All,
Regarding the mandatory requirements of ASHRAE 90.1 for automatic daylighting control.
Our project is a hotel and bedrooms have large windows, so the primary sidelighted area of each room is above 250 ft2. Considering this is a hotel, and that the this type of control in the bedrooms (daylight control, ON/OFF or dimming) may cause some discomfort to the clients, do the daylight control requirements apply?
And in the case that the room has only 1 fixture in the ceiling?
Please note that for all other areas (offices, reception, etc) daylight control will be installed.
Thanks in advance

I don't see any exception for this situation.

It's hard to imagine that a hotel bedroom has a primary sidelighted area of more than 250 sf. That would be a 21 foot wide window with a 10 foot head height. Is that really the case?

I think that the 250 sf is the area of the enclosed space that contains the window(s), not the window area itself.

See definition of primary sidelighted area at p. 13 of ASHRAE 90.1-2010.

Thank you, Marcus!
Windows may have 13 foot head height in some cases.
