I have an additional question for paper that includes confidential/sensitive information. Since my building is a bank, ALL paper is considered sensitive information for security reasons. We have locked blue bins that get taken away and recycled/shredded once a week. The desk side recycleable bins get dumped into these locked bins twice a week by the janitorial staff. How would I go about tracking that in the audit since this would really help our diversion rate because paper is our top recycled item.

David, real simple. As the bins are hauled off by a 'shredding company' they will be tallied by the hauler for weight (hopefully) or volume. The tickets that are issued by that hauler are your documentation that will be used in the diversion rates that you report. Start an excel spreadsheet...or if the hauler is clued up, they will send a quarterly report with the tickets added in.

Yes they do give us a monthly report. The question is now that since we are doing a 24 hour period for seperation, would I get their monthly number and divide by 30 since the sample would only be for 1 day?

David, that's a logical way of doing it. To support that one number, get a 6 month rolling average started and cross check against that.
