Hi all,
Is anyone familiar with detailed requirements for carpet that has embedded antimicrobial preservatives or coatings? Our client is asking for carpet tile with antimicrobial coatings to use in a band and orchestra room (where there will be potential for water, spills, and spit). I have not been able to find specifics on whether or not any manufacturers have "LEED compliant" antimicrobial preservatives or coatings in order to safely know whether or not a coating will meet the requirements of the flooring systems.
Thanks!

Though a proper cleaning protocol is preferred, antimicrobials are allowed under the CRI Green Label Plus requirement. Note that factory-applied antimicrobial coatings are combined with other additives that help them bond to the fibers, but they can still wash out over time and they are on the surface where occupant exposure is more likely. If the client is set on using antimicrobials, look for those built into the backing.
