CS-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

compliance with ASHRAE 90.1 2007

In order to fulfil the requirements of EAp2 through building simulation, do we need to meet mandatory requirements of ASHRAE 90.1 2007. We feel that meeting recommended building envelope U/R values (which requires insulation of external walls) and glazing SHGC is not justifiable for the hot and humid climate of our project in Brazil. -We expect to significantly improve building performance by using external shading rather than low glazing SHGC and insulation in walls is having very small impact on energy performance whilst changing the complexity of the project significantly. would be great if anyone can point us in a direction... Thank you

Yes you do need to meet the mandatory provisons of 90.1 however the insulation levels and window performance values are prescriptive, not mandatory. Sounds like your approach is acceptable within the requirements. The baseline will contain the minimum insulation and window performance values with no exterior shading. Your proposed project does not need to meet any of these prescriptive parameters.
