Can a vehicle transporting staffs from one pick up point to the project in the morning and from the project back to the pick up point in the evening be considered as carpool?
This vehicle (car or minivan) will only come in the morning and evening.

I actually have an add-on question...no anwer, sorry. Is this carpooling within a "campus?" If so, then my question relates to the same sort of situation. We have two parking lots, one for exclusive in-plant use and one that employees use when they come to work. We are considering both parking lots as hardscape (for heat island effects), but when it comes to zoning requirements, they hardly seem to apply to the within-plant spaces. We have good things happening in the exclusive parking (battery recharge stations, bike racks, etc. ), but the number of spaces may be considered redundant if you count them as well as the employee parking spaces (thinking of parking capacity). Any advice on how to think of this lot? My thoughts are that bike racks and recharge stations that are not available on the "public" side would not help with SS credits 4.2 and 4.3, but I don't think the spaces should count against us for c 4.4. The question Eric asked applies to my situation as well. Thanks for your help. Someday I'll have answers, not questions. Maybe.

Eric,
is this pick up point similar to a Park N Ride parking area located along a freeway? Or is this location on your site already and it's just shuttling the staff to the building? If it's the latter, then I don't believe you are meeting the credit intent since the staff have already driven to their place of work. Let me know but it sounds as if the staff drive to a parking lot far away from the building. If you could provide me more information, I can answer your question better.

Elizabeth,
Can you also provide me more information. Are these parking lots on either side of the building? One for visitor's the other for employees? My sense is that if both are in your LEED boundary, and you don't exceed local zoning regs with the number of spaces, you will have to provide preferred parking in both lots by splitting the difference once you do your calculation.

Thanks for helping here, Larry. The parking lots ARE on either side of the building, but one is in a "restricted" area so neither employee nor visitors park personal vehicles there. It is only for parking of in-plant vehicles. If I count those parking spaces, I bust Credit 4.4 by exceeding zoning requirements. Doesn't seem those spaces should count since they're not used by commuters. Thanks.
