Per the Credit exemption, "specialized signal, directional, and marker lighting for transportation".
You copied the wording from the exemption but are still asking for guidance. That make me think you are trying to force fit a light into the exemption. I consider transportation light in this exemption as any light that conveys information to the driver. Are you just providing area light on the ramp so the drivers can see where they are going or are these lights informational, like arrows, stop lights, pavement perimeter marking, hazard warning strobe, etc?
Area lighting is not specialized. What are these lights doing that is specialized to help the driver?

If we located the area lighting inside the ramp rataining wall (recessed 0.3m high from the ramp road), can this kind of ramp exterior lighting be exempt from the BUG rating? This don't seem to have an impact on the light boundary trespass. Also We don't really like to choose Option 2 calculation method, since it is very difficult to control some random reflextion light spot on the calculation plane.

If the light is illuminating the road it is not exempted.
There are two parts to this credit. Reduce uplight. Reduce light trespass.
I'm confident it doesn't have an impact on the light boundary. It still needs to be documented. Backlight is not an worry for a recess light. With such a low mounting height I doubt it can reach the light boundary. You are probably having an issue with glare and uplight. The calculation method is the only way to avoid these issues. Assuming there are enough other lights on the site.

I do not understand this. The software I use only calculates direct light for exterior lighting. Direct and Interreflected light is used for interior calculations. Most exterior surfaces have such a low Light Reflectance Value that there's no point.

Hi Bill,
Sorry about the confusion. When we use Dialux to do the simluation for the project, we found some other light boundary calculation plane can exceed 1 lux (for LZ2) even if we strictly chosed the luminaires according to Option 1 BUG rating method. we figured out that some reflections from the building walls (0.3 reflection ratio) especially in some corridor cases with two wall face to face can still have some impacts on the results. Guess we should just tune down the reflections even further or even turn off the reflections for such low thershold in this case.
