Calculating Shaded Area for SS Pr 7.1- Variance for SRI Values

Two questions: Is partial credit or a variance given for SRI values lower than 29 to comply with SS Pr 7.1? Also, can anyone give me feedback on how they calculated the Shaded area on Site for Vegetation? Is this based on tree height at a certain time or does LEED have a calc for certain trees?

Melissa, Please consult LEED interpretation 5220 in reference to your first question regarding partial credit for SRI values. For your second question, determining the percentage of hardscape that is shaded by vegetation is done by calculating the vegetated coverage area (i.e. tree canopy) using the average from three time periods (10 am, noon and 3 pm on the summer solstice). Your shaded area can be based either on the coverage of vegetation at the time of building occupancy, OR within 5 years from the date of installation (to allow for tree maturity).
