Building Product Disclosure and Optimization - Climate Health

Current language awards additional points for products that reduce their carbon footprint by 15% below the industry average. Furniture does not have an industry average. BIFMA is working with members and service providers to determine a path forward. Given the complexity of products and a review of current LCA and EPD practices, we anticipate a solution to be three-plus years away.

There are also no established Industry Averages for carpet and many other categories that lack an Industry-Wide EPD. LEED needs to learn from the mistakes of v4.0 and the failed EPD Optimization credit and establish a better approach than referring to data which don't and probably never will exist in EPDs.

  2. We propose that this category also includes structural products, recognizing the substantial relevance of structural construction materials and their value chain

    1. Eligibility: We recommend adding CSC to the eligible certifications in this section, with applicability across Climate Health, Human Health, Circular Economy and Ecosystem Health metrics.
