Assuming a 10 storey building where the first three floors are retail floors and the remaining 7 floors are office floors, is it generally possible to use the building area method?
Is it possible to split the building according the usage and use the building area method for retail (16 W) at the first 3 floors and the building area method for office (11 W) for the remaining floors?

If using the building area method you can use a different value for different space types within the same building.

I understand you that we can use the Building Area Method, separately for the retail and for office occupancy.
As it is a CS project where we just know the lighting equipment of the stairs and circulation area in the core of the building but not on the surrounding office and retail areas. Can the limit of 11 W/m² (office) and 16 W/m² (retail) be applied in that case?
It would be quite easy to fulfill the requirements as we just know the design of the circulationa area yet and this is around 10 W/m².

Without a lighting design or tenant guidelines the lighting would be modeled identically in the baseline and proposed models based on the baseline allowance.

Assuming I use the Build.Area Method and split up the building in office and retail part. How are areas to treat which serve both parts (the retail and office) as for example technical or storage areas.
E.g.: Technical -2, Retail -1 to +1, Office +2 to +10
As the major part of the building is office I assume that the technical area has to be included in the lighting load calc. of the office area?

Assign some or all of those spaces to one or the other and use the appropriate value for that space type.
