I have a question about mounting height for BUG rating option (Trespass).
How can I determine “distance from grade” (per LEED definition of mounting height) if my project has varying surface level? Should I base my calculation on the actual height of installation from respective surfaces (road, hardscape, footpath etc.) or from a universal project reference point (eg. +0.00 external road level) or level of grading at lighting boundary)?
Please advise.

Mounting height is based on the grade adjacent to the fixture. Typically light poles have a pole height and foundation height above grade. 25' pole plus 2.5' foundation above grade equal a mounting height of 27.5'. This same height is used for each light pole with the same pole and foundation heights. Having a site with varying surface level doesn't really matter.
If you have a roof top patio with lighting at the edge of the building, I'd be tempted to use the height from grade rather than the roof. It will depend on each project and the lighting selected. There isn't a clearly defined rule for this situation. Just make an attempt to fairly represent the project circumstances.
