Are biological laboratories considered as regularly occupied spaces? If they are, can they be excluded from the floor surfaces considered for IEQc Thermal comfort since the comfort control for occupants will be contrary to the conditions requested by the process activities?

Hello, any idea about this issue, please? Shall the project team provide a narrative letter where it explains why the comfort control by the occupants will be contrary to the conditions requested by the process activities?

Hi,
Laboratories are considered regularly occupied, and are also considered multi-occupant spaces rather than individual spaces (such as cubicle desks within an open office area).
They cannot be excluded based on their activities; to comply with the Credit(s), LEED expects regularly occupied spaces to have all the same controls as any other reg occ space. If the project doesn't meet the requirements, then it's unfortunately just not eligible to pursue the Credit.
Hopefully the multi-occupant designation helps, though. It has mostly helped us on lab/office projects for this credit and the lighting controls one.
