Dear All,
Short-term and long-term bicycle spaces (if located in exterior areas) must be “covered” (to protect bicycles from weather), to comply with credit requirements?
Consulting the LEED credit library, we only found the following requirements (Step-by-Step Guidance - Step 6. Install bicycle storage):
Both short-term and long-term storage facilities are more likely to be used if they are located in a well-lit, safe, and accessible area.
Thanks in advance,

The requirement for long term spaces is found in the glossary. long-term bicycle storage = bicycle parking that is easily accessible to residents and employees and covered to protect bicycles from rain and snow. https://www.usgbc.org/glossary#letterl

Hi Ricardo,
The definition of short-term and long-term bicycle storage are explained in the following based on LEED glossary (https://www.usgbc.org/glossary):
Short-term bicycle storage: non-enclosed bicycle parking typically used by visitors for a period of two hours or less.
Long-term bicycle storage: bicycle parking that is easily accessible to residents and employees and covered to protect bicycles from rain and snow.
For the long-term bicycle storage, it is clearly states that long-term bicycle storage require to protect bicycles from rain and snow. For the short-term bicycle storage, there is no specific requirement to protect from weather. However, both short-term and long-term bicycle storage require location in a well-lit, safe, and accessible area. Therefore, better to ensure the short-term bicycle storage is covered from weather too, as same as the long-term bicycle storage.

Hi All,
We are working on a California project that has to comply with CALGreen. One of the requirements is provision of long term bicycle storage however, bicycle storage does not require a covering. We are also pursuing the Alternate Compliance Path for California LEED projects. Seeing that the project is meeting CALGreen requirements do we still have to provide covering for long term bicycle storage? Which requirement prevails in this case, LEED or CALGreen?
Thanks.

Jasmin, this credit is not listed as one of the equivalents with CALGreen in the official Guidance Document, so you would need to meet the LEED requirements.

Thanks Emily,
Was hoping there was some exception.
