Dear all LEED users,
I am working on a project setting up on a plot with an already existing building. LEED certification only concerns the new building which is being established on the plot of the old one. My question is whether I should still plan to meet this credit for the existing building.
Someone told me that I had to plan bicycle and shower parking depending on the size of the existing building for this existing building, but I am not convinced of this recommendation because LEED certification does not concern this building, even if this old building is within the limit of the LEED boundaries.
Thanks a lot for you help and advice,
Marion

Hi Marion, you do need to address the existing building - kind of. The LEED credit requires you to provide bike parking based on the number of people in the LEED building. However, if it is on a shared lot and will be shared by people in the existing building, you will need to show that there is still enough parking to accommodate users of the LEED building. And that might mean calculating the number of people in the existing building and providing enough bike parking for both. Or locating the LEED project parking indoors where it would not be shared.

Hi Emily, I really thanks yoiu for your answer. I understand that I have to add some bike parking for the existing building depending on the people working in this existing building. But do I have to respect the localisation within 30m for the bicylcles storage and the entrance, and do I have to put a shower in this existing building ? Beacause we do not carry out work in this existing building.
Thanks a lot for your answer.

No, you wouldn't need a shower or bike racks close to the existing building entry. The idea is to provide enough bike parking for the LEED building users even if it is shared with others, not to extend the LEED requirements to the existing building.
