The credit intent is to reward project teams for selecting products verified to have been extracted or sourced in a responsible manner.
In the UK we have standard BES 6001 to enable construction product manufacturers to ensure and then prove that their products have been made with constituent materials that have been responsibly sourced. The standard describes a framework for the organisational governance, supply chain management and environmental and social aspects that must be addressed in order to ensure the responsible sourcing of construction products.
Products are third party assessed and certified against the requirements of BES 6001 and is used for construction products such as cement and steel to concrete pipes and blocks, windows, flooring, roof tiles, plastics, wood products.
Does anyone know if BES 6001 is an USGBC approved program under Option 2 - leadership extraction practices?

I think USGBC is still in the process of approving all these add-on possibilities. I'm not sure how long it's going to take. Keeping my ears and eyes open for updates!

I have not seen addenda relevant to this credit aside from the Legal Wood ACP, but I know it is a top priority for this year. I do not believe 14001 meets the CSR option. Nothing does, as far as I can tell so far.

Hi Katarzyna,
It's not on the list of approved options for MRc3 Sourcing of Raw Materials credit, but BES 6001 certification can contribute to achievement of pilot credit IPpc144 Social Equity within the Supply Chain. To achieve this pilot, projects must submit documentation showing proof of compliance with verified standards for at least 3 permanently installed products from at least 2 different companies and BES 6001 is one of the verified standards for products.

Hi Juliana,
I can't answer your question directly for v4 but take a look at v4.1 and see if it's included there, or if it's easier to meet those requirements. Gnerally, all of the MR credit requirements are more realistic in v4.1, and you are allowed to upgrade individual credits to the later version. Also check the addenda tables; https://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-addenda-database for both versions. As options get added that's where they show up. Boa sorte!

I have found this to be the best resource when looking for all the approved options for v4.1 credits: Environmental Product Declarations, Sourcing of Raw Materials, and Material Ingredients credits.
The Legal Wood ACP calculator lists additional approval paths for wood products that can be used when pursuing Sourcing of Raw Materials.

FSC, SFI, ATFS, CSA, and PEFC are programs that can demonstrate wood complies with the SRM credit. It is broken down further into "legal, responsible, certified" to determine the percentage of the wood that contributes to credit compliance. Another interesting tidbit....bamboo, nonwood forest products, and other materials that are NOT ACTUALLY WOOD but are certified by FSC can count toward this credit.
I am hopeful that LEED version 5 will simply all of this.
