Data-Centers-NC-v4 EQc1:Enhanced indoor air quality strategies

Battery room (Litium-ion)

Our data center project has had litium-ion battery rooms which the pollution from battery can't occur in normal operation because of the litium-ion battery type. The question is this room must be counted as pollution room or not. And is room requires the exhaust rate as the chimical room in table 6-2 (ASHRAE62.1)?

Hi Jayaprakash, I got the reply answer from GBCI regarding the battery room that there is no
pollution emitting for new battery technology and the answer was "Yes, battery storage rooms must meet the requirements in ASHRAE 62.1-2010 Table 6-4 for "storage rooms, chemical" for prerequisite compliance.  If the project pursues EQc Enhanced IAQ Strategies Option 1, battery storage rooms are as "spaces where hazardous gases or chemicals will be present or used" and must comply with Strategy B Interior Cross-contamination Prevention.". I hope this information is helpful.By the way, I recommend reaching out to GBCI directly for any technical questions you may have. Their technical team can provide official confirmation, and you can use the case number as supporting documentation when submitting the project during the LEED review process.
