Part of the human impact assessment should include identifying where the trash from the building ends up (i.e., geographical location of landfills and/or incinerators) and the demographics of the frontline/fenceline communities affected by the pollution. When you design a building that includes provisions for reducing the building’s wastestream, you can anticipate many positive social, health, environmental, and economic impacts that reach far beyond the building.
