The first phase of our Job Corps project was to construct a new cafeteria on campus. The second phase is to demolish the old cafeteria. The old cafeteria has asbestos in it. Can the abatement of that asbestos qualify for this credit? The old cafeteria is within the LEED boundary.

Yes it can. However, you'll want to think about how this will impact your timing for LEED certification. If you choose to include the demolition project as part of your scope for the LEED project, you will have to wait to do your LEED construction submission until after the demolition happens (not sure how long after phase I that is planned for). You'll need a "clean letter" to document that the asbestos was abated and the jobsite is clear for other workers in order to get this credit.

Thanks Allison. The demolition of the cafeteria has always been part of the LEED plan so that's OK. This is an opportunity to try to pick up another point.
