Hello All,
We have a project on a military base that required removal of existing piping running across our new building site. During site demo the pipe was tested and determined to contain asbestos. We have the extent of pipe indicated on site plans provided by the Gov and the change order indicating the Gov requirement for remidiation.
What other documentation might be required to achieve the credit? Has anyone achieved this credit through similar circumstances?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Jeff, interesting question - asbestos remediation no longer qualifies for this credit in v4/4.1, but that is assuming the asbestos remediation was part of an existing building. Your situation sounds like it should fall under the "soil or groundwater contamination has been identified, and where the local, state, or national authority (whichever has jurisdiction) requires its remediation" situation described in the credit language. So I'm definitely curious if anyone has achieved this with in-ground asbestos containing materials.
You have the first half of the documentation you need, which is the letter requiring remediation. The second half you need demonstrates that the remediation work is completed. Ideally this is in the form of a letter from the same government entity that required the remediation, confirming the work has been done to their satisfaction. If that's not doable for some reason, the company that performs the remediation could provide a letter summarizing their work and the remediation standards followed, confirming it is what the government required.
