Area calculations for products like sprays, caulking, and drywall mud

Hello,

I have a contactor that wants to use the area method for compliance for the paints and costings & sealants and adhesives tabs in the Low-Emitting Materials Calculator. Does anyone have experience with this and has an idea how to calculate the areas for items like sprays, caulking, and drywall mud that do not cover an entire wall surface? Thanks for your help.

I've had the subcontractor give me the volume of things like that, then I use the manufacturer's data to determine the coverage amount.  For caulking, I estimate the width of the bead and the length of the bead, then find area.  If you know they've got one bad product that they don't think will comply, you'll want to get a good guess of if it is a large percent of the area or not before you let them use it.
