NC-2009 SSc4.2: Alternative Transportation—Bicycle Storage and Changing Rooms
The majority of visitors to our project -a conference center- will not be traveling by bicycle. Is there a way to unlink the link from PIf3 on the SSc4.2 template to reflect the exclusion of x number of visitors unlikely to arrive by bicycle?
Or can the logical numbers only be presented through narrative?

Does LEED have any requirements on spacing or the type of bike racks used? What about security?
Are there specific requirements for the changing rooms, such as size?
Do bike racks have to be within the LEED project boundary?
Is a general storage room that is accessible to residents acceptable for covered bike storage?
Do I round up or down? What if the calculations show that I need 0.5 showers?

We tried that argument, and did not get very far. We were referred to LI #1936 (a hockey arena), which in our opinion is not a valid comparison, as visitors to conference centers do not have set, predictable attendance hours, and may vary over the course of the day, and the event. Nonetheless, no go.
Best of luck - perhaps you might succeed where we failed. Keep us posted.

Thanks, Deborah. I'm referencing LI 2422 and using historical data that shows most events are not local events. I've broken out local meetings, proms, job fairs, luncheons of local businesses or nonprofits, etc. with an estimate of what percentage of people might ride a bike. Then a percentage of locals that might be involved in the larger events from out of town and what percent of that percentage might come by bike. And I'm assuming that maybe 1% of out of town attendees might have a bike.
That's my plan anyway! I'll let you know how it goes.

Just wanted to circle back to my question and let you know that we did win this credit. After talking to the conference center GM we decided to apply for this credit based on the biggest annual event that locals attend: First Night. Historically, the most people in total to attend this New Year's Eve gathering is 640. Events are all day throughout the business district so not everyone attends at the same time or even goes to the conference center. Still, we based the bike racks on 5% of 640. Our reasoning was accepted with no questions.
