Hi,

we are currently working in a project of a new airport that is pursuing LEED certification. Regarding LTc4 credit we have two doubts:

  1. do rent-a-car and gas station facilities count as a service outside the building (e.g. as other retail)
  2. according to a specific document produced by USGBC for Airports (Considerations for LEED v4 BD+C Airport Projects, 8 June 2017), it is possible to include services located within project boundary as long as they are less than half of the total required. For instance, if 8 services  are required, this means that only 3 services inside the building can be counted, correct?

Hi Ricardo, 
  1. I have tried and failed in several past projects to identify facilities like this as qualifying services. Usually, the response is that they don't consider vehicular-based services to support the intent of the credit. I'd say they're unlikely to qualify.
  2. Can you let me know where you found the document you mention? I have tried searching for it several times, but cannot locate it. For your question, I would say counting 3 services would be safe; I would probably try for 4 and see if they take it. Can you post the exact language from the doc so we can get some opinions?

Hello Ricardo and Emily, This period I am also working on an airport project.  I also got this document Considerations for LEED v4 BD+C Airport Projects, August  2018. The GBCI send it to me by email when I asked them an airport related question.   I have also a lot of questions related to airport projects and I was reading from this forum all airport related questions. I was thinking to send to you Ricardo, this document, by email. But at this post I realized that you already have it. Good! Best regards
