Hi,
we are working in a project of a new airport. Our doubt is related with the occupant type that shall be considered for passengers: visitors or FTEs (number of passengers converted to FTEs using average occupancy time)?
Additionally, shall we consider any visitors other than passengers (e.g. persons waiting someone at arrival halls)?

Hi Ricardo,
I have tried in the recent past and just now to locate guidance specific to new construction projects at airports, and haven't been able to find much. It seems that USGBC wants v4 airports project teams to contact them directly for assistance until they are able to publish more solid guidance for the general public. I just watched a USGBC video on youtube specific to this topic. I recommend you watch it and follow the advice there. Hopefully, you'll also let us know here what kind of feedback you get back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHudg8SqKmQ&feature=youtu.be
If i come across anything in the meantime, I'll be sure to come back here and provide an update.
If I had to figure these things out on my own, I would likely treat the passengers as visitors and name them as one user group inside the facility, and then have a separate user group for those doing pickup/dropoff, and also treat them as visitors. For the water calcs, I think you would be able to justify some non-default use frequencies for some of the fixtures for the shorter-term visitor group, too, if you feel it's justified. It would be smart for you to determine the approach you want to use, and contact GBCI to ensure your approach is appropriate before doing the related work.

There is a LEED Guidance for Airports. We received a copy about a year ago from Lisa Stanley of USGBC. It contains more detailed information than the video Emily referenced above.
It would be great if this forum has access to that document.

Hi Deborah,
Teams can inquire with USGBC for a copy of the Airports doc mentioned, however they've indicated that it is not yet ready for full public release, hence the reason it's not yet posted as an avialable download. We emailed and asked for clarity, hoping we could post details about the content within. Until USGBC's ready, though, teams should be able to attain a copy by requesting directly. I actually got a few separate responses, as I emailed directly, and posted a query comment on the article. I think they've sent it to me at least 3 different times now.
