It seams to be a topic that is interesting for several members of LEED user. Since March the new International Green Construcion Code (IgCC) is available. It allows air curtains as an alternative to vestibules(http://www.bdcnetwork.com/code-allowance-offers-retailers-and-commercial...). The USGBC is a cooperating sponsor of the IgCC. Unfortunately air curtains are not yet an exception in ASHRAE 90.1. Has anyone tried to make a CIR yet? Does anyone think that air curtains will get an alternative to vestibules within LEED?

90.1-2010 does not have air curtains listed as an exception either so you would need to make a strong case for it. Not sure if the 90.1 committee is looking at this issue for 90.1-2013. I do not recall seeing any studies which indicate that air curtains save energy compared to a vestibule but maybe. The fan power they use already puts them in the hole.

Hi,
An exception regarding this issue have been added in the ASHRAE 90.1 2019 version. I wonder if is possible to justify this mandatory provision with this version for LEED V4 Minimum Energy Performance compliance. Does anybody justify this? Do you think is possible to show compliance with a newer ASHRAE version?
Thanks

This type of justification has been accepted before. So I think the fact that it shows up in a future version of 90.1 should be sufficient justification to show compliance with this mandatory provision. Make sure to point it out to the reviewer and provide your justification.
