EBOM-2009 IEQc3.5:Green Cleaning—Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control

10% Exemption

Hello, If we are exempting a retail space from this credit, would the property need to install walk off mats from the retail door into into the building, or would the whole area be exempt, including the retail entrance from the street and into the building? Additionally, if there is 5 feet of matting and then textured tape, would this qualify? There are stairs with non-skid safety tape in one of the restaurant areas. Thank you very much!

Hi Elizabeth, you can exempt the whole area that is under separate management. For your second question, I'm not sure that textured tape would comply with the requirements because tape isn't designed to capture and contain particulates in the same way that walk-off mats are.

I wanted to post a follow-up here since my previous advice is outdated. In cases where a tenant/retail space is being "excluded", GBCI now asks that teams place a compliant mat at the interior entrance between the tenant/retail space and the main building, if occupants can use that interior entrance to enter the building. The line of thinking is that an entryway system can be placed here because building management has control over their side of the interior entrance. So this means the exemption only applies to the entrance from the outdoors to the tenant/retail space.
