EBOM-2009 SSc7.2:Heat Island Reduction—Roof

10% exclusion

We have a project with an office tower (white TPO) and a detached 2-story annex (mod-bit BUR). The annex is 7% of the total building area. For SSc7.1, can we exclude the annex roof from the calculation?

Hi Varun - the Reference Guide provides the following guidance for exempting spaces:  All prerequisites (except IEQ Prerequisite 2: Environmental Tobacco Smoke Control) and credits offer a 10% floor area exemption option for multitenant buildings. If it is not possible to gather the necessary tenant data for these credits, or the applicant does not have control over the required element, the project team can exempt up to 10% of the building’s gross floor area. I haven't submitted a project that excludes square footage from this particular credit. But the guidance above indicates that it would be acceptable.
