Don’t allow your efforts to document the current levels of alternative commuting at your project building overshadow the importance of developing incentives and helping people use alternative transportation. Incentives can take many forms—including, but not limited to, the following:
- Infrastructure service: Secure bicycle storage, shower facilities, or preferred parking permits for fuel-efficient vehicles.
- Financial subsidies: Mass transit passes, or nonfinancial incentives like employee recognition programs.
- Program management: Shuttle service, “free ride home” programs, rider-matching programs to bring together co-workers interested in carpooling.
