Puneet Mital is the Regional Manager- Market Development, Asia Pacific & Middle East for Green Business Certification Institute (GBCI), the certification arm of U.S. Green Building Council. He works to enhance the user experience and effectiveness for the Green Building community in the region. Based in New Delhi, the capital of India he is primary on-the-ground representative for the USGBC/ GBCI to proactively solve customer needs across various ratings programs offered by GBCI. Puneet also works towards bringing the green building community together for various events/ seminars/ conferences and has been a key member in the launch of IFC’s EDGE rating and IWBI’s WELL Ratings in India and South Asia.
Puneet’s primary areas of focus includes global market development of LEED and its community with a special focus on transit sector. Puneet has been the key player in certification of few of the landmark projects such as Metro Bhawan as the 1st building worldwide to be LEED certified through the Arc and Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi as the 1st global airport to peruse performance monitoring through Arc etc.
Puneet has represented the organization as a speaker for various national and international conferences including Greenbuild 2016 at Los Angeles, Acrex, Municipalika, Acreconf, Nispana, Bangladesh Green Summit & Urban Health, Smart Cities India… and many more
He has been a key member in establishing some of the prestigious strategic collaborations for the U.S. Green Building Council and GBCI including Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for development of LEED Mass Rapid Transit Rating and its performance, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India for enhancing Energy Efficiency in Building sector etc
He is a Bachelor's of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering, masters of technology from University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun in Energy Systems. Currently Puneet is perusing his MBA degree from IIM-L under working manager’s regular evening classes program (Batch 2016-18). This program one of its kind in India and is especially designed for middle and senior level working managers to further polish and strengthen the management skills and excel in career.
Prior to joining USGBC, Puneet had worked for over 3 years with India’s premier Industry body (CII) where he worked on sectors including Energy, Climate Change & sustainability, Automobile, policy advocacy etc. He has also spend several years in the Green Building industry and has been assessor for hundreds of Green building projects where he conducted Reviews, Physical Audits and site visits etc. He has also worked on Projects with some of the prestigious organizations including Defense Research & Development Organization, Larsen & Toubro, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Planning Commission of India (now Niti Aayog), Min of New & Renewable Energy etc. A native of New Delhi, Puneet has keen interest in sustainability concepts, Energy Efficiency and its application in the buildings sector and beyond. He likes travelling, luxury cars, adventure sports, meeting people and making new friends.
