BIO
Rebecca Owens was most recently a Sustainability Planner at Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB), an integrated services firm based outside of Boston, Massachusetts. She had six years of professional experience and at VHB, where she specialized in best practices research and business development, particularly as relates to retail and institutional (higher ed) sustainability planning. She was a key author of VHB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, and is point-of-contact for VHB’s green building and operations projects, LEED EB O&M participation, office carbon offset assessments, and LEED education for staff. Rebecca is an active LEED AP BD+C; she chaired the Legacy Project for the 2008 Greenbuild Expo, which supported integrating green building/sustainability education with K-12 curricula in Massachusetts, and in 2010, she was a primary author in collaborating with the Center for Green Schools to publish the "Roadmap to a Green Campus" guide. Most recently, she has been administering a LEED for Retail Volume Certification project for a grocery chain. As an undergrad at Wellesley College, she studied Environmental Policy and was involved with a reusable mug campaign, the first campus Greenhouse Gas Assessment, and recommending sustainable design features for a new campus center. In her spare time, she enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee and exploring parks in the Boston area.
