BIO
Cindy Cogil brings over 20 years of mechanical design experience. She has worked on a wide range of project types including higher education, integrated master planning, museum, corporate and research facilities.
Many of her projects have achieved recognition for operational performance and sustainable design. Cogil has worked one of SmithGroup’s most sustainably designed projects - the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Brock Environmental Center. It’s the firm’s first project under the Living Building Challenge, a rigorous performance standard to certify top-performing green building projects. Following its completion in fall 2014, the Brock Environmental Center has produced all its energy through on-site, renewable sources.
Cogil has a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas. She is also the co-developer of the heat transfer model for below-grade structures in the LBNL/DOE EnergyPlus building energy simulation computer program, named by R&D Magazine in 2003 as one of the 100 most technologically significant new products of the year.
