BIO
Michelle Halle Stern has been sought after as a green building expert since the late 90s, when she started one of the country’s first sustainability programs, and founded the USGBC Illinois Chapter. Her background in architecture and engineering, and Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences gives her a unique perspective and understanding of complex systems, and the human health impacts of green design.
Michelle has her own sustainability consulting firm, The Green Facilitator, and is also a partner in the professional development firm, Prairie Lab. Prior to starting these ventures, she spent most of her career as the director of sustainability for large architecture/engineering firms.
In 2011 the Green Building Certification Institute named her to the inaugural class of LEED Fellows, reflecting her longstanding contributions to green design. She also received the first Chapter Leader Award from USGBC-Illinois. Michelle continues to be a committed USGBC volunteer, currently serving as the Chair of USGBC’s Indoor Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group, and she has been a member of USGBC Faculty™ since 2002.
Ms. Halle Sterns speaks and writes frequently on green building topics, and is known for consensus building, collaboration, and strategic visioning.
