Duncan Griffin, AIA, is a Registered Architect (California) with 22 years of experience, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. As a Principal at NBBJ he focuses on integrating sustainable practices into our projects, working primarily on Healthcare Design, with additional experience in Science and Education, and Corporate markets. His recent projects include the UWMC South Campus Expansion, Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, Overlake Hospital, and WSU Bio-Medical Health Sciences building.
He has spent the last 5 years of his non-project time on research projects to develop strategies for energy reduction in hospitals, a topic he has presented at a multitude of conferences, and written about widely. The Integrated Design Lab at the University of Washington are leading this research with contributions from NBBJ, Better Bricks, Solarc AE, and TBD Consulting. Currently they are working on a DOE grant to extend strategies to reduce energy use by 60% to a national healthcare model.
