How to learn more about LEED

Help Wanted: LEED-related Jobs
posted by Jed Wilberforce on Feb 14, 2024, 10:58 am

We are a manufacturer of rolling aluminum shutters designed for security, crowd control, and insulation. We are starting to get our product spec'd on large retail projects across US and Canada and are started to get lots of questions about our product and the LEED points it provides. We are new to this and need to learn more about it so that we can be knowledgable on the subject when speaking to clients. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about learning more? It all seems like greek to me to be honest and we need to learn more! Does USGBC offer any time of training or something similar? Lmk,...

Serious(ly) Newb Question: ASHRAE 90.1,

Hi Folks, I am the poor slob (AKA apprentice) tasked with sorting out the credit our local electrical utility will allow for a lighting project of a commercial bldg outside parking lot. The utility pays proportional to the power savings relative to the 2017 ASHRAE recommended LPD and the lot size Is there a difference between LPD and LPA? Is LPA = LPD *area? I understand the ASHRAE 90.1 LPA as a power density standard (but really, an attempt to set an efficiency standard), but I keep circling around to the idea that I most know the *minimum* lighting requirement in terms of illumination or else...

Millwork built offsite and installed as built in cabinetry

NC-v4.1 EQc2: Low-emitting materials
posted by Summer Gorder on Apr 29, 2024, 7:51 pm

I have Millwork that was built offsite and installed as built in cabinetry. I've seen a lot of back and forth on this and I'm wondering if it has ever finalized. It contains Plastic Laminate, adhesive, composite wood, quartz, metal brackets... What categories do they go in v4.1? Some have CDPH, NAF or no certifications. Plastic Laminate-? Adhesive- Adhesive Composite wood- Composite Wood Solid Wood- In Composite wood as inherently non-emitting quartz countertop-? Corian Solid Surface by Du Point (composite of materials not wood)-? metal brackets- Walls Metal handles and knobs-...

Compiling a few people's comments here... Connected & Compact Credit still references the density calculation which has been hard to source quality data for and time consuming to calculate. Is there a shortcut for e.g. projects in a downtown location or otherwise obviously dense area? We have seen a lot of project teams especially outside the US or in smaller US communities struggling with this one, has USGBC gotten similar feedback on this in v4? Can the Data Center and warehouse requirements apply for manufacturing? Credit should award factory projects that provide transit during shift change....

Compiling a few people's comments here... Accessible Building Not allowing wheelchair lifts in lieu of ramps- recommend allowing existing lifts to remain in the case of an exisitng building under renovation. Re-grading a whole entryway would add a lot of scope #2 wheelchair accessible counter- is this defined only by height or also knee clearance? How will projects document compliance...

v5 BD&C: Project Priorities and the Triple Bottom Line

I suggest that the current pilot credits for triple bottom line analysis i.e. "Informing Design Using Triple Bottom Line Analysis" and “Informing Design by Major Credit Category Using Triple Bottom Line Analysis” become a full permanent credit that can be used to achieve points under Project Priorities. There are hundreds of examples of the credits being used and a great deal...

LEED v5 BD+C/ID+C: Integrative Process, Planning, And Assessments Public Comments

I think the Triple Bottom Line assessment (i.e. quantifying the value/impact of the design) would be beneficial in this category for 3 reasosn: Alignment with USGBC's Strategic Plan: Placing the ESG-Informed Design credit within the Integrative Process category would better align with the USGBC's strategic objectives, fostering a more cohesive approach to sustainability in building design and construction. Empowerment of Design Teams: By incorporating the ESG-Informed Design credit into the Integrative Process category, design teams would be equipped with the tools necessary to address first-cost...

Planning Zero Waste Operations

It seems that maybe an education scope in this prerequisite is needed to achive the Zero Waste and threshold also seems to be needed as the prerequisite only speaks of "attempting" zero waste management, so is not mandatory to achieve the goal. ...

This credit should be attempting zero waste management in construction. Seems to me that this credit is less demanding than the prerequisite of Planning for Zero Waste Operations and shouldn't be. ...
