Dear LEED Experts,

I am looking for clarity regarding how many products listed in the BPDO Calculator can use the exact same impact category values listed in an industry-wide EPD.

According to LI #10425 : A single industry-wide (generic) EPD can be used for up to 10 products listed within the industry-wide EPD, provided that each application has separately reported impacts within the EPD. The part of the LI that I am looking for clarification on is "provided that each application has separately reported impacts within the EPD".

LEED has defined a product as a finished item with a unique product function. It is my understanding that two instances of the exact same North American Glued Laminated Timber could be counted as different products in the BPDO calculator if in one instance the North American Glued Laminated Timber is being used as a column and in another instance, the timber is being used as a beam.

Using this definition of a product both the North American Glued Laminated Timber that is being used for column and being used for beam (listed as separate products) would have the exact same EPD impact category values as listed in the industry-wide North American Glued Laminated Timbers EPD from the American Wood Council and the Canadian Wood Council found here: https://www.awc.org/pdf/greenbuilding/epd/AWC-EPD-Glulam-1307.pdf.

Can both of these products (the beam and the column) using the same EPD impact category values listed in the industry-wide EPD each contribute 0.5 of an EPD used on the project, totalling 1 of the 20 full EPDs required?

Thank you for your expertise!
